What You Are Actually Renting
A roll-off is a steel container that arrives on the back of a truck, comes off onto your driveway, and goes back on the truck when you are done with it. You fill it on your own schedule. We deliver it and we pick it up. Nobody from our crew is loading it, which is the whole point: the container is yours for the window you booked, and you work when it suits you rather than when a crew is standing in your driveway.
That difference is worth being clear about, because it is the thing that decides whether a dumpster is the right call. If the debris arrives gradually, over a weekend of demo or a week of clearing, the container is the better tool. If it is all sitting there right now and you want it gone by dinner, our junk removal crew is faster and cheaper for most single-day jobs.
How the Rental Works
Call or text with the project and the address. We quote the whole thing up front, one number covering delivery, your fill window, and pickup, and you approve it before we dispatch a truck. We deliver, you fill it on your own schedule with no clock running, and you call when you are done.
If the job runs longer than you planned, call before the window closes and we will price the extension rather than surprising you with it.
The full walkthrough covers delivery day in detail, including what the truck needs from your driveway.
Picking the Right Size
Most people order one size too big. A pile looks enormous when you are standing over it, and an oversized container is money spent on air.
The 14-yard handles a single room, a garage, a shed, or a yard clear-out, and fits a normal Central Valley driveway without eating the whole thing. The 20-yard fits a kitchen or bathroom remodel, a heavy garage, a move-out with furniture going too. The 30-yard is whole-house volume, for emptying rooms rather than tidying them. Roofing is the one thing it will not take.
Between two sizes? Describe the rooms on the phone, or read the sizing guide.
What Goes In
Household junk, furniture, appliances, construction debris, drywall, wood, metal, roofing material, flooring, and yard waste all go in without a problem. Freon appliances and electronics are fine too.
Concrete, soil, brick, rock, and gravel are the exception, and we do not take them at all: those loads reach the truck’s legal road weight while the container still looks half empty. Roofing tear-off we do take, in the 14-yard or the 20-yard, quoted on a bed-load basis instead of by container size.
The full accepted and restricted list covers the rest.
Where the Container Sits
Most rentals go on the driveway, which is the simplest arrangement: no permit, no city process, no negotiation about street frontage. The moment a container has to sit on the public street it becomes a city question, and that varies across the four counties we serve. Give us the address when you book and we will flag it, so you are finding out now rather than on delivery day.
Managed communities and HOA properties often carry container rules stricter than the city’s. More on permits and placement, including how we protect the driveway surface.
Where We Deliver
Toss Out has run out of Modesto since 2021, and the delivery map is built around what a truck can reach and get back from in a working day. How quickly you get one depends on where you are:
- Modesto is on a route we are already running, which is why same-day is genuinely likely there.
- Turlock, Ceres, Riverbank, Hughson, and Oakdale are close enough that the same logic mostly holds.
- Manteca, Ripon, Escalon, and Lathrop are usually next-day, sometimes same-day if the timing lines up.
- Stockton, Tracy, and Merced are scheduled runs, so next-day is normal.
- Sonora, Copperopolis, and Valley Springs are planned foothill deliveries carrying a premium rate for the drive, quoted per address. Booking ahead gets you a better window.
Whichever category you are in, you will hear it on the phone. We would rather tell you next-day honestly than promise same-day and call you at four in the afternoon.
Each city has its own page covering local placement quirks and permit expectations. Start with where we work.
